While more and more manufacturers go offshore, Schonbek continues to manufacture crystal chandeliers from raw materials in the U.S.A. Our factory is located in Plattsburgh, New York.
Ours is an old family business (dating back to 1870), and Schonbek family members are intimately involved in all aspects of design and manufacturing. We're able to maintain our high standards because the factory is part of our daily lives.
We're a vertically-integrated manufacturing facility, and we thrive on challenge. If we have a design idea that's impossible to realize with existing technology, we simply invent a new technology.
Our factory is state of the art. Yet Schonbek chandeliers also contain a great deal of painstaking craftsmanship. Hand setting of crystal jewels and hand rubbing of finishes happen side by side with sophisticated computer-aided design.
Most of our competitors are bringing in container loads of standard product that have been built offshore in a production line for the mass market.
The owner of a Schonbek doesn't want to be part of a mass market. Our standard product line is anything but standard. Because of our unique manufacturing methods, we can give the customer precisely what she or he wants. When you consider all possible styles, dimensions, finishes, and crystal types and colors, the buyer of a Schonbek product has about 12,000 options!
And for customers with a unique vision, or commercial requirements, we have a sophisticated Custom Division. If a crystal chandelier is possible in the world of physics, we can build it.
Continuous improvement is integral to our manufacturing process. We're constantly seeking better ways to do things. For example, we've developed proprietary finishes for our crystal chandelier frames that are non-toxic to the environment and give off no emissions. Another example: we continually strive to eliminate waste. Our factory is visually organized so that anything can be found in 30 seconds.
Our engineering efforts are customer-focused. Schonbek products are famous in the industry for being easy to assemble, every part fitting just as it should. Even our packaging is user-friendly, specifically designed to protect the product it holds. Offshore manufacturers have the advantage of cheap labor willing to work under any conditions.
Our answer has been to develop unique, efficient and highly innovative manufacturing methods, protected by patents. And we cultivate the creativity and the problem-solving powers of our employees, whom we consider one of our strongest competitive assets.
