Black Is Back!
Schonbek Introduces
New Black Crystal
Chandeliers and Lamps.
|
PLATTSBURGH, NY - Schonbek has designed several new collections of crystal chandeliers and lamps for 2006 that explore the depth and brilliance of black.
"Black is, and always has been, the most sophisticated fashion color," said President & CEO Andrew Schonbek. "But this year we decided to make it a new force in home decorating."

Hamilton: classic chandelier,
dressed in black crystal
|
“Black crystal is not an antique phenomenon,” said Schonbek. “It’s utterly new, and boldly counter-intuitive. You expect crystal to glitter, and suddenly it doesn’t.
“Gazing at our new black Hamilton is like looking at a photographic negative of a classic crystal chandelier. The Jet Black crystal is traditional in shape and beautifully faceted, but it’s glossy rather than glitzy. Jet Black crystal arms gleam darkly. Frame elements are exceptionally fine mouth-blown and hand-cut crystal, all in black.

Diva steals the show
wearing black
|
Diva is a new contemporary crystal chandelier by Schonbek with a theatrical bent. Wearing black velvet shades and Swarovski® crystal jewels, Diva is prone to upstage conventional furnishings.
“Words like cosmopolitan, stylish and stylized come to mind,” said Schonbek, “when we try to describe this chandelier. It’s simple, yet very designed.”
Trendy black details include Jet Black crystal bobeches, Jet Black crystal finials and a Jet Black gallery encircling a space age stainless steel grid. Each chandelier arm holds a giant inverse solid crystal taper, accented at the tip by a tiny Strass® Jet Black crystal bead.
|
Tiara, a new beaded
crystal chandelier, shines forth
in a Jet Black finish
|
This chandelier has a filigree framework bezel-set like jewelry with thousands of tiny Strass® crystal jewelry beads.
The effect is lacy and nostalgic when the frame is finished in gold or silver hues. But Schonbek also offers Tiara in a new Jet Black finish, inducing a total personality change. Suddenly Tiara is not only richly bejeweled, but coolly seductive.
|
Renaissance with Jet Black crystal:
a classic seventeenth-century
style makes history anew
|
King Louis XIV loved this style of chandelier, and Schonbek’s rendition is faithful to historic models, The ornate framework and open cage construction is authentic to the period.
But the look becomes twenty-first-century with Jet Black crystal ornaments and a Jet Black frame. These glossy black elements contrast with rock crystal and clear crystal pendants.
|
Helix: high tech spiral of
Jet Black crystal
|
Helix is a playful pendant from the Geometrix® collection of high tech lighting by Schonbek.
This year Schonbek makes Helix in Jet Black and Black Diamond crystal, adding a worldly air to a whimsical design.
|
Jasmine: matching chandelier
and lamp with Jet Black crystal
|
Schonbek recently had the insight that some people might like to match their lamps and their crystal chandeliers. Jasmine grew out of this idea.
Massive chunks of rare optic crystal form the bodies of both lamp and chandelier. Contrasting with the perfect purity of this crystal are lustrous Jet Black crystal balls.

New Deco lamps commit to black
|
Black never looked so sure of its fashion flair as it does in the new Schonbek collection of Deco lamps.
“These lamps have an architectural impact,” said Andrew Schonbek, “and a design daring that takes full advantage of the boldness of black.
“Every lamp shade is black or striped with black. Black patent leather shade elements and Jet Black crystal balls express the shininess of black. Suede and velvet trims express the rich opacity of black.
“The high contrast potential of black is fully exploited. These lamps have bodies of rare, dramatically faceted optic crystal, and black brings out the high intensity brilliance of the crystal as only black can.”
Schonbek was founded in Bohemia in 1870, and is now the premier manufacturer of crystal chandeliers in North America.
