PLATTSBURGH, NY, JUNE 28, 2007 - Schonbek explores the mystery of reflected light with a new mirrored crystal chandelier called Cappela, arriving now in lighting showrooms around the world.
The crystal ornaments combined with the mirrored frame create an endless swirl of illusion.
Cappela is in a class of its own, somewhere between contemporary and traditional styling. Although Cappela was inspired by ornate antique Venetian mirrors, its embellishments are simple.
The Jet Black frame, a serene composition of swirling scrolls, is smoothly clad with a mirrored echo of itself on either side. Whimsical flowers and curves are incised through these mirrored surfaces to let the Jet Black inner frame gleam through. Candle slips are incised with the same dainty floral motif.
A Cappela crystal chandelier reflects and refracts all the colors in the room.
There are two crystal options: Jet Black crystal or clear crystal. Either way, the signature crystal pendant is unusual, a sleek four-faceted pendeloque that looks very modern but is actually an antique cut.
A natural accompaniment to trendy mirrored furniture, Cappela may inspire a desire for a house of mirrors. To satisfy a penchant for matching, Schonbek makes a swirling, layered, mirrored Cappela lamp.
"During the design process," said Schonbek, "we realized that the lyrical shape of Cappela has an appeal that stands on its own. So we experimented and created a Cappela crystal chandelier without mirroring." This equally dramatic Cappela has a white frame incised to reveal a Jet Black inner frame."
