PLATTSBURGH, NY - Schonbek has invented what is probably the world's first dishwasher-safe crystal chandelier: Da Vinci, a new design from the Geometrix® high-tech lighting collection.
"We've spent our lives telling people not to put crystal in the dishwasher," said President & CEO Andrew Schonbek. "With Da Vinci, we encourage them to do it.
"This perfectly round crystal chandelier is a radiant entity to begin with, made with fine, highly prismatic Swarovski® crystal. Put it through your regular cycle, and Da Vinci will emerge more brilliant than new. The crystal will be dazzling. The stainless steel frame will emerge gleaming."
Da Vinci comes apart in sections to fit into a standard dishwashing machine. The smallest size can be done in one load, the largest may take several loads. Da Vinci is available in four diameters: 10, 12, 18 and 24 inches.
Schonbek cautions owners not to wash their dishes and silverware in the same load, however. "You won't want to subject your crystal to flying forks," said Schonbek.
Dishwashability is just one aspect of the inventiveness of Da Vinci. "The construction of Da Vinci is so ingenious," said Schonbek, "we hold a utility patent to protect it. The design is composed of thousands of crystal octagons of different sizes, precisely positioned to achieve a perfect roundness, and to emanate an otherworldly luminosity."
