new heights this season with a Milano
crystal dish design by Schonbek
PLATTSBURGH, NY, JANUARY 14, 2009 – Close to ceiling lights are bread and butter to lighting retailers. This January in Dallas, Schonbek introduced a highly original design that brings a whole new aesthetic to this important category.
The new ceiling light is part of the Milano collection by virtue of its unique Italian castings. An elaborate circumferential cast banding is an outstanding feature of the design. As with all designs in the Milano collection, the customer can choose among a variety of rich antiqued finishes.
"In creating the crystal dish," said Andrew Schonbek, "we have exercised our usual fascination with crystal. No one in the lighting business has made anything like it. The crystal is fluted, with sensuously rounded ribs. Inside each flute are three decorative cuts.
"Each flute acts like a lens, concentrating the light. The cuts refract light. So you have a captivating interplay of prismatic and optic effects. The crystal is perfectly pure and yet, because of the ingenuity of the design, the inner light sources are not visible."
There are several sizes of the look with an ornamental cast canopy. With some designs, cast scrolls curl off the exterior cast ring and display swags of crystal jewels.
Both crystal dish and castings are made in Italy to Schonbek designs.
The inclusion of ceiling lights in the Milano collection greatly expands its versatility. A home with ceilings of varying heights can be lit by a variety of Milano designs, including chandeliers, ceiling lights and wall sconces.
