Commercial Lighting by Schonbek - Chandelirious Exhibit at the Shelburne Museum

The Shelburne Museum in Vermont is celebrating the contemporary chandelier with a special exhibit: Chandelirious, running May 10-October 23, 2007.

This museum is a world famous collection of antique structures full of Americana. It also houses a noteworthy collection of Impressionist masters.

But when the curators plan a special exhibit, the past often gives way to the future.

The site of the exhibit is a hundred-year-old round barn. Of the 25 designs on display, three are by Schonbek.

A TRADITIONAL SCHONBEK CHANDELIER KICKS OFF THE EXHIBIT.

At the entrance to the exhibit there's a classic crystal chandelier, Renaissance by Schonbek, giving visitors a reference point for the experimental variations to follow.

From here the visitor goes on to see chandeliers made of outré materials such as ping pong balls, bare bulbs, and plastic knives and forks. As well as two news making contemporary chandeliers by Schonbek.

WORLD’S FIRST DISHWASHER SAFE CRYSTAL CHANDELIER, BY SCHONBEK

Da Vinci™ by Schonbek is a traffic stopper. A perfectly round crystal chandelier, Da Vinci™ stands out like some luminous entity from outer space against the rough whitewashed walls of the barn.

Because cleaning such a perfect sphere of spectral brilliance might intimidate some, Schonbek designed Da Vinci™ to be dishwasher safe. It comes apart in sections, like an orange, to fit into a standard dishwasher.

AND IN THE SILO, AN LED LIGHT SHOW BY SCHONBEK

The newest Da Vinci™ chandelier is an LED light show, and the curators hung it alone in the cavernous silo. Astonished visitors peer at it through a window.

Da Vinci™ LED comes in various sizes, but the one in the exhibit is three feet in diameter - an enormous ball of fiery color, one color flowing into the next with a dream-like quality.

EVEN A RUBBER CHANDELIER CAN BE BEAUTIFUL.

Besides the official Schonbek designs, there's a Schonbek in disguise in the exhibit. Hot young New York designer Tobias Wong took a Schonbek crystal chandelier and coated it with industrial white rubber. Suddenly a classic crystal chandelier becomes an outrageous fashion statement.

SCHONBEK IS AT HOME IN MALLS AND MUSEUMS, IN VEGAS AND HOLLYWOOD.

Schonbek designs have appeared in a number of prestigious art exhibits, attesting to the originality of our work.

Designers, architects and moviemakers often seek out Schonbek to realize projects that are unusual and challenging. We have a unique custom capability. If a chandelier is possible in the realm of physics, we can build it.
