Its a "lost paradise" in the Pacific. Its a $950-million Las Vegas resort hosting legitimate theater and boasting celebrity chefs. Its Mandalay Bay and in the inner sanctum of the high-limit gaming areas of the casino, the Schonbek crystal chandeliers play no small part in the aura of high living.
Terry Dougall, president of the interior design firm, Dougall Design, calls the Schonbek chandeliers "my favorite feature in the entire Mandalay Bay project."
Schonbeks custom designs include twenty crystal chandeliers and eight torchière-like wall sconces.
The interior design firm envisioned a chandelier with a huge inverted bell-shaped basket of crystal. Other bidders on the project said the curves had to be glass panels and that they couldnt be formed with crystal. But we found a way to achieve the curves with a dense grid of crystal pendants.
We like to think anything is possible.
The largest chandelier in this style is 84" in diameter and is trimmed with 8,100 crystal spears. The gallery (or perimeter) of the chandelier is 16-sided, with intricate raised and layered surfaces in contrasting Heirloom Gold and Etruscan Gold finishes. Antiqued crystal prisms further embellish the gallery.
The same type of elaborate metalwork and crystal trim may be seen in the wall sconces.
A second Schonbek chandelier design is distinguished by intricate, lace-like metalwork in fanciful, flowing shapes, embedded with thousands of tiny crystal jewels.
