The Sheraton Waikiki had a vision of ballroom chandeliers with a border of hibiscus (Hawaii’s state flower).
Because we do our own metalwork, we can make a lighting fixture look like anything you wish. So instead of just adding a border to a chandelier, we made the whole design into a flower. Each chandelier became a giant hibiscus with crystal stamens and dewdrops.
We worked from a "live model" to recreate the sensuous curves and intricate veins of hibiscus petals.
During the design process we suggested transforming our nine flower fixtures into a multi-colored programmable light show. And the hotel acquired a highly marketable capability it hadn’t anticipated.
Each fixture is mounted on hoists and can be lowered to any level fully lit – even down to the floor for maintenance.
The petals are easy to remove for changing light bulbs. There are 1,400 bulbs in the largest fixtures.
