COURTING THE CUSTOMER WITH LIGHT AND COLOR
Lighting has always taken a back seat to display in merchandising. The traditional job of lighting was to focus on the goods for sale.
To see a whole new approach, catch a flight to the Toronto Airport.
The largest duty-free store in North America, in the Toronto International Airport, is a pioneering example of a new role for lighting in retail.
Designer Henry Stone, principal of Airport Design Group, broke with tradition to make this project a showcase. He used Geometrix® by Schonbek as signature lighting for the jewelry and watches section of the store.
LIGHTING DEFINES THE STORE
Stone calls lighting "the language of the store.
"Instead of conventional signage, we used lighting to communicate what was for sale in each store within the store. Geometrix® was a natural for the accessories store.
"Crystal goes perfectly with jewelry, watches and designer sunglasses."
A colossal crystalline parallelogram, Matrix by Schonbek, hovers at the heart of the display cases. Crystal-studded Vertex® spotlights echo the shape of the central display and glamorize products they highlight.
POWERFUL DOWN LIGHTS WITH THE POWER TO WOW
Most Geometrix® designs provide a powerful down light ideal for illuminating countertops. At the same time, light refracted by crystal jewels creates a shimmering ambience that stimulates shoppers and flatters the merchandise.
Retailers have a wide choice of crystal colors with most Geometrix® designs: neutral colors that won’t compete with the products, as well as wildly iridescent colors for pure drama. Stone chose neutral colors for the Toronto Airport project.
