Contact Schonbek

There are so many wonderful Schonbek crystal chandeliers on this website, I fear that some really noteworthy designs might be overlooked.

For example the Florentine 4-light wall sconce.

It’s on the wall sconce page, but it’s much more than a sconce. It’s a miniature crystal chandelier that just happens to attach to the wall.

Everything about it is dainty and endearing: the jewelry-like chains of crystal beads, the tiny crystal pendeloques, the whimsical little scrolls.

The photo doesn’t do it justice. You’re better off going to a lighting showroom to see this teensy wall-mounted crystal chandelier.

And the finish and crystal colors shown in the photo are just one option. Florentine crystal chandeliers and sconces come in a variety of colors. My favorite is an Etruscan Gold frame with Smoke Topaz crystal. You can explore all the finish and crystal options at a good lighting showroom.

If you’re interested in crystal chandeliers for your home, you may not think to visit the Commercial Lighting page of this website.

But let me point out something interesting: the images of crystal chandeliers in the Amsterdam Concert Hall.

Who knows? You may be vacationing in Amsterdam soon, and if so, you’ll probably visit this world-famous concert hall. While you’re there, be sure to notice the crystal chandeliers.

The Queen of Holland sometimes attends concerts at the Concertgebouw, and when she’s there, she gets to relax beneath the Schonbek crystal chandeliers on the balcony foyer. When she’s not there, you can check out this area.

Also, as you enter or leave the concert hall, you’ll find yourself on a magnificent staircase lighted by another Schonbek crystal chandelier. This chandelier has little spotlights positioned among the arms, specifically for the purpose of lighting the stairs.

These crystal chandeliers were custom made for the Concertgebouw and have some unique features. But the overall style arose in the seventeenth-century French court of Louis XIV. If you like the style, check out Versailles.

Whenever I’ve attended the Schonbek trade shows in Dallas or Milan, I’ve been struck anew by Olde World. This crystal chandelier has the amazing quality of always feeling fresh and new, yet it’s rich in historic resonance.

Arnold Schonbek designed this signature piece. Olde World has its roots in the eighteenth century, but in specific points of styling it’s a conscious evocation of nineteenth-century Bohemia.

Schonbek was founded in 1870 in Bohemia, in the area we now call Czechoslovakia, and the family glassworks went back even further. So Olde World is a crystal chandelier with considerable nostalgic significance for the Schonbeks.

Picture ballrooms aglitter with crystal chandeliers, royal chambers furnished to inspire awe, living quarters resembling palaces – and you’re in the world of Olde World. This was the Schonbek market in the nineteenth century.

The market today is somewhat different. Olde World can indeed be ordered in regal sizes. But you can also acquire this crystal chandelier in a size small enough for a standard dining room. And it will be authentic in every detail.

The thing to note about this style is that it’s all crystal, not just the ornaments but the arms, scrolls and column parts. Every part of this crystal chandelier is constantly reflecting or refracting light.
