How to avoid causing a short in a Geometrix® pendant

Geometrix® low-voltage pendants use a W.A.C. Quick Connect system. These pendants use a
co-axial wire cord-set that carries two current paths. The same wire provides physical support.

Field shortening of the wire requires that the electrical connection be reestablished properly.

Both support and electrical connection are accomplished by tightening two setscrews. The top setscrew contacts the innermost wire, while the lower screw contacts the outer braided wire.

The inner wire is stripped back too far or not pushed completely to the top, it can short through the Quick Connect to the lower wire. If the lower screw on the brass collar (cable fitter) is driven too deeply, it can break through the insulation of the inner wire and make contact.

In both of the above cases, electricity will flow through the point of contact and not across the filament of the light bulb, forming a short. A shorted pendant can trip a circuit breaker and/or damage a transformer.

A Quick Connect Continuity Tester is included in some Geometrix® packaging. It is also available from Schonbek (part number QP-TESTER).
