Isabelle, a fully cast chandelier, revives eighteenth-century Granja styling. The first royal license to produce Granja chandeliers was granted in Spain in 1727. This chandelier is a worthy descendant of its regal ancestor. Castings are incised with intricate leaf and flower motifs and lattice-like patterns – and exhibit lace-like filigree openwork. Cast in Italy, these designs are original to Schonbek. Spiral crystal arms and scrolls are hand-formed in historic shapes. These curvaceous ropes of crystal are characteristic of authentic Granja chandeliers – and quite difficult to execute. Highly stylized crystal ornaments contrast with the intricate castings.
